Beneath Mist and Veils - Kayla & Henry's Stormy Midsummer Wedding

Some wedding days are defined by sunshine. Others are defined by the weather they never expected. Kayla and Henry's June wedding at Kirtlington Park was the latter—and I wouldn't have changed a thing.
Driving from London to the Oxfordshire countryside early the morning of the wedding, the sky was heavy and blackening. I subconsciously put on the soundtrack to Wuthering Heights to put myself in the mood for what was likely to be a stormy shoot. When I arrived at the bridal suite and discovered Kayla and her bridesmaids were listening to the very same playlist, it felt like the universe had quietly handed us the theme for the day.
Like many couples planning an English summer wedding, Kayla and Henry had envisioned an outdoor celebration. But the weather had other ideas. Dark skies, persistent rain, and dramatic clouds meant every part of the day moved indoors. It's easy to mourn the loss of sunshine or the carefully laid plans that never quite happen. But sometimes, when you stop wishing for a different day and start embracing the one you've been given, something even more beautiful unfolds.
Inspired by the romance and wildness of Wuthering Heights, we created photographs that felt intimate, windswept, and timeless. The storm outside became part of the story rather than the obstacle. The soft light pouring through the windows of Kirtlington Park, the rich shadows, and the atmosphere created images that simply couldn't have existed on a bright summer afternoon.
Kayla looked effortlessly elegant in her Caroline Castigliano gown, complete with delicate removable sleeves that transformed her look throughout the day. And Henry, very dapper in his beautifully tailored suit from Gieves & Hawkes.
One of the most meaningful parts of the day was the gathering of their closest family and friends, many of whom had travelled all the way from Malaysia and New Zealand to celebrate with them. It was a beautiful coming together of cultures, traditions, and generations—a reminder that weddings are as much about the people who surround you as they are about the two standing at the altar.
As evening fell, guests gathered for a candlelit dinner that felt impossibly romantic. Flickering candlelight reflected across the historic interiors of Kirtlington Park, creating an atmosphere that was warm, intimate, and full of conversation and laughter.
As dusk approached, the rain finally eased. We took the opportunity to head outside for ten quiet minutes before the next shower arrived. The gardens were soaked, the air was cool, and there was still enough light left to photograph them wandering through the grounds together. Those final portraits feel completely different from the rest of the day. Less polished, perhaps, but freer. The damp grass, the lingering mist, and the blue evening light gave everything a softness that suited the atmosphere we'd embraced from the very beginning.
It's funny how often wedding photography reminds me that perfection isn't found in perfect conditions. Kayla and Henry's wedding wasn't the sunny English garden party they had imagined. It became something richer, moodier, and deeply romantic—a celebration that felt like stepping into the pages of a classic novel. And honestly, I can't imagine it any other way.
